Concern in Chile for some indication of new government by deleting historical memory in Internet
Posted Mar 15, 2010 by LucyThere is much concern in the Internet users in Chile with respect to evidence, were shown in the last hour about the real possibility that the new government begins to erase the historical memory
He explains very well Luis Ramirez in a post on his blog: Deleting with a click our historical memory.
Not 48 hours had passed and the change of command and had taken the photos and logos former government officials. Ok, that may be reasonable, although the trouble was a little surprised. Was it necessary, particularly in a time of emergency, in which all efforts should be in the earthquake? But the biggest surprise came later, when the now ex-Secretary of Telecommunications Pablo Bello announced via Twitter that had erased the historical archives of stories from the website Subtel. I refused to believe that this was something beyond a simple technical error. Apparently I was wrong.
Definitely it is very worrying that a new Government takes its responsibilities to address and the first thing to do is erase, either intentionally or by mistake (technical or conceptual) news related to a Ministry who occupied previously. First because it is absurd to want to erase something from the Internet as there are many ways to retrieve that information and second because the story is strong and grows when want to disappear, achieving the opposite effect.
I reviewed the websites and at times seems a technical problem, and hopefully it is just that. At first attempt I appeared Subtel historic news, then some of them appeared to try again and again can not see any news. In reviewing the website of the Ministry of Planning are only news since 2006 (do not know if this is normal), some people and blogs suggest that here also "deleted" the news archive.
Ultimately it is very important to draw attention when these things happen. Definitely many governments around the world look to the Internet a threat, instead it use it to make their actions more efficient, communicate better and be more transparent with the expense. Expanding democracy and participation with the Internet is so easy that it is so absurd vision, with many politicians, with regard to the uses that can give you the tools online. They feel extremely threatened and want to stop it in various ways. Hopefully this issue resolved and the error is resolved.
